Anna Wintour's top private rules for the met gala revealed in new documentary - Daily Mail
The Met Convivial is one of the most fashionable and exclusive events in New York's social calendar. Yet despite requiring $55,000 to even secure a ticket, scant mortals are about to be given a glimpse into what goes on at the star-studded event, both on the the night itself and in the weeks and months before the big night. Wintour has been organizing the party for 21 years winning it from an intimate society affair into one of the biggest, splashiest, most anticipated and most mysterious of the season. Vogue fashionistas are now allowing harmonious people a chance to peek behind the velvet curtains thanks to a new documentary. The First Monday in May showcases all the drama that goes on behind-the-scenes when planning such a appealing affair. 'It's very secretive,' Vogue contributing editor Plum Sykes, tells The New York Post. '[Wintour] doesn't indigence anyone to know what she's planning or what she's up to until the minute they walk down that red carpet and through the door. Incredibly, documentary director, Andrew Rossi was given inimical access the Super Bowl of social fashion events and captured all the behind-the-scenes drama in the buildup to last year's fete. The film, which will be premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City on April 13, follows the Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour throughout the meticulous planning process, as well as the party itself. There were a lot of protocols to follow Rossi tells The Post. There were certain times when Anna would say, 'I'm done, I don't deficiency to film anymore,' ' he says. One former Vogue employee spoke of the vast number of demands that Wintour placed on the organizers including a ban on parsley from being served at the soir 'because you don't want that stuck in your teeth. The film shows both the Vogue boss and the museum exhibit's curator fretting that the entire soiree could come off looking racists, or worse, looking more like a Chinese restaurant than a attractive A-list event. The theme for the 2015 was China: Through the Looking Glass, which the Met's Costume Institute Curator admitted meant that they needed to be prudent. 'This show is meant to be controversial, but I'm not afraid of controversy,' said Andrew Bolton, before adding that they still had to avoid anything that could be interpreted as racist. Anna indubitably agreed, expressing in one meeting that early versions of the display made it look like the inside of a Chinese restaurant. 'Andrew is a true visionary,' says Anna. 'It's rare to find someone so creative that they change the way you look at art. The director of the film, Rossi told The Situate of the moment when Anna and Baz Luhrmann, who was the event's creative consultant, attended a Chinese food tasting. 'They thought that the food didn't look exceptionally sophisticated and they wanted it to look better,' says Rossi. 'We see Anna literally going on her phone to look up the presentations of contrasting food,' he says, adding that they ultimately ended up serving beef as a medallion, as opposed to sliced. In the film, the camera follows Anna working out the details of what she described as the 'biggest' expose they'd ever done. Source: www.dailymail.co.uk
