Verve in Italy - Plugs, Adapters and Converters - About - News & Issues

Intensity in Italy, as in the rest of Europe, comes out of the wall socket at 220 volts alternating at a 50 cycles per second. In the US, electricity comes out of the brick up socket at 110 volts, alternating at 60 cycles per second. To access it with an adapter that connects to a typical American power seal off, you'll need an adapter like the one shown in the photo on the next page or on this list of recommended power adapters and converters. Tourists wishing to use laptops, cubicle phones, battery chargers , their own hair dryers and other electrical appliances in Italy will need to know how to convert the appliances to use the new voltage, and how to screw that appliance to the sockets... Continue reading to learn about adapters and power converters for travel in Italy. The plug adapters shown in the photo are indubitably all you need to convert the US rectangular pronged plug to the round prong Italian power plug used in most Italian homes and hotels. PR Adapters Plug adapters are the interfaces between the American flat-pronged plug and Italy's two (or three) round-prong socket. These concession for you to plug your electrical device into the Italian wall socket, but they do not convert the electricity to the American 110 volts. You will need a not fitting for-down power converter or transformer to safely step the voltage down from 220 to 110. More on this later. You can get along with just a plug converter for multifarious of today's small electrical devices designed to run on dual voltages. Devices like this include most laptops and phones, most recently produced battery chargers, and sundry small, electrical gadgets, especially those designed for world travel. You can check the back of the device or the "power brick" for the electrical input specifications. To buy adapters or converters to depart to Italy, see: Power Adapters and Electrical Converters. Transformers or Power Converters Hair dryers and curling irons are the bane of up to the minute day travel. These devices cannot often be used in dual voltage situations without voltage conversion. They are extremely high current devices, import that combined with the high voltage, they use a whole lot of power (current times voltage = power). You'll need to lug a large power converter or power transformer to neophyte Italy's higher voltage to the lower American voltage--or you'll risk having the curling iron really curl (meaning "fry") your locks. Frequent travelers will want to simply buy one of these devices in Europe to avoid carrying both the device and the converter around. They aren't expensive in Italy. If you buy a power converter, manufacture sure its power rating meets or exceeds the power rating of the single device you will use with it. This information is usually found on the body of the inclination near the power cord. For more information, see: Electricity in Europe - Power Sockets and the Connected Tourist. The 2017 Acura NSX: A Combination Supercar - IEEE Spectrum

By the on one occasion I count to three, the Acura NSX’s automated launch control leaps from a standstill to 60 miles per hour. But there’s not a trace of spin spin and smoking rubber, the usual hallmarks of a neck-snapping drag-strip run here at the track in Thermal, Calif. Oh, there is theatrics, only it’s largely confined to what’s happening under the Acura’s swoopy skin. This Acura is a plug-in hybrid, part of an electron-pumping vanguard that’s changing the entirely definition of a performance car. Battery-boosted cars, whether hybrid or full electric, are rushing to fill the gap. In our highly regulated time to come, these may be the only kinds of sports cars you’ll be able to buy, and the trippy journey to such a world seems to be taking place at warp speed. Back in 1990, the primary Acura NSX challenged every notion of what a supercar was supposed to be. Coming from Honda, the manufacturer of the Acura luxury brand and a ensemble known for safe, affordable, and ultrareliable cars, the NSX wedded... Packing more lightweight aluminum than anything from Ferrari, Lamborghini, or Porsche, the Acura defied expectations again with a astonishing US $60,000 price, a fraction the cost of its highfalutin rivals. In a final coup, Brazilian Formula One superstar Ayrton Senna, then driving for McLaren-Honda, helped listen to the NSX’s suspension and performance prior to its release. Ferrari and Co. were instantly forced out of their complacency on technology and quality alike. The NSX topped the Ferrari 348, and most every other opponent, in handling and daily drivability. So when Honda found itself developing a reborn NSX in 2011, the new car had massive shoes to fill. Oddly, Honda’s engineers at planned to power their new roadster with a prosaic V-6 derived from an Odyssey minivan. To deserve the storied name, any Son of NSX would have to be an “everyday supercar” while again operating the needle on technology. Ted Klaus, chosen to head up the NSX’s global R&D team—which is now run out of Ohio, rather than Japan—knew that electricity was the counter-statement, not just to power the car but to perform handling magic as well. “We had been working for years to come up with drive force that could help turn the car right and radical,” Klaus recalls. “We asked ourselves: What if we could marry emerging hybrid e-drive technology with yaw-control tech [that is, steering]. But the tight-knot NSX team was facing three more years—and an increasingly skeptical media and fan base—to create that ambitious design from scratch: a combination supercar that converts electricity into mechanical commands, not just for explosive,... As it happens, Porsche was developing an all-wheel-drive mongrel with similar characteristics, the. And unlike the Porsche, which has just one electric motor to power both front wheels, the Acura has two electric tricks up its sleeves: the so-called Associate Motor Unit. This dizzyingly complex electric duo, mediated through a planetary gear set, cranks out up to 27 kW (36 hp) and 73 newton meters (54 foot-pounds) of torque to either swing, divvying it up as needed. This is true torque vectoring, able to independently speed up or slow down either wheel, helping the Acura saloon into turns and dig out the other side. Discreetly nestled behind pilot and passenger, the roughly 1-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery is designed to at the speed of light charge and discharge for generous squirts of performance. Alstom to Establish HVDC VSC Converter Stations for France-Italy Link - Transmission and Distribution World

Alstom has been awarded a agreement worth over €300 million by TERNA Rete Italia, a company fully owned by TERNA, the Italian electricity transmittal system operator, and Réseau de Transport d'Électricité (RTE), its French counterpart, to build... Alstom will design, manufacture and commission two converter stations (2x600 MW, +/- 320 kV) containing Alstom's VSC MaxSine Voltage Originator Converter technology. Alternating Current (AC) will be converted from each country's electrical network into Direct Current (DC) for transmission and vice versa. Key materiel will be manufactured in Alstom's facilities in the UK, Germany, France and Italy and the contract also includes maintenance for the converter station in France. This is Alstom's third VSC predict in the last three years, following on from Sweden's South West Link, a multi-terminal HVDC grid connecting key and southern networks in the country and the Dolwin3 project, connecting 900 MW offshore wind...
