  • Review: Anker's + RAVPower's Solar Chargers refuel iPads and iPhones, so long as the sun's very bright

The wisest solar-powered accessories I've tested hedge their bets by storing energy in batteries that can be used (and wall-recharged) even when the sun's not out. Others become worthless when the sun goes away. Anker's 21W PowerPort Solar Charger ($55

The Most suitable Solar-Powered USB Chargers - Gizmodo Australia

The charm is that these chargers work only with USB devices, which limits their appeal for those who need them for long-term, off-grid setups. If you’re going to be mostly stationary and call to charge or run larger devices like laptops or televisions, or more sophisticated equipment that requires AC power, you’ll probably be more interested in the larger setups from companies like Ideal... In fact, even if you don’t need AC power, you might be better off skipping the solar charger altogether and starting with a USB battery pack. Our large battery pick will keep a smartphone charged every incessantly for a week and is no bigger than a paperback novel. But if you’ll be on the trail for more than a week, you can’t be sure of your power needs, or you want something to tuck into your exigency kit, a solar charger could refill a small battery pack in a day or directly charge a smartphone in two to... Powerful And Portable: Anker PowerPort Solar Lite The Anker PowerPort Solar Lite is the vanquish portable solar charger because it has the best combination of charging speed, size, and price. Its two-panel design generated almost as much power as our foregoing three-panel pick (the RAVPower 15-W Solar Charger ) and is twice as powerful as the much more expensive Goal Zero Nomad 7. As a follow-up, you get virtually just as much charging... Used alone, the Anker can fully recharge small tablets or one or two smartphones in one sunny day. If you span the Anker with one of our favourite USB battery packs , the combination will have enough juice to keep your USB-powered gadgets fully charged every day for as long as needed. Though the Anker PowerPort Solar Lite’s uniform average (6 watts/1. After filling up from the PowerPort all day, our test battery discharged only 15 per cent less power than the battery powered by the much larger and heavier RAVPower charger. Beyond power yield, the Anker solves an irritating problem common to other chargers. The Anker and runner-up RAVPower both returned to full-speed charging promptly after being shaded. But two of the panels we tested, including the otherwise-excellent Poweradd , got stuck in a slow-charging state after just a few seconds in the shade. A Bit More Robust But A Lot Bigger: RAVPower 15-W Solar Charger The RAVPower 15-W Solar Charger was our top pick until the new Anker charger came out, and it’s still a good alternative, if a slightly bulkier one. In turn sun, they both produce about the same amount of power — in our tests we measured 1. 71 amps from the RAVPower vs. 1. 67 amps for the Anker. Under indirect sun — what you’ll probable get in the morning or late afternoon — the RAVPower actually does better, able to pump out 1 amp in the late afternoon when the Anker had already effectively ban down for the night. Over the course of a whole day, though, the RAVPower netted us only 15 per cent more energy in our external battery pack — about 500 mAh. Source: www.gizmodo.com.au

Inspection: Anker's + RAVPower's Solar Chargers refuel iPads and iPhones, so long as the sun's very bright - 9 to 5 Mac (press release)

Thanks for enchanting the time to write it. I have the Anker 21 watt panels after owning the 14 watt Anker panels for quite a while. I wasn’t too propitious with the 14 watt Anker panels as even all day in direct sunlight, they charged things slowly. When the 21 watt panels came out, I sold the old panels to facilitate pay for the new panels. There is a noticeable speed difference in the 21 watt panels – I can charge my phone (iPhone 6+) as quickly as a bulwark plug in direct sunlight and actually charge my 26,800 brick vs 1-2 bars a day. However, I make sure to use 6 ft cables so I can safeguard my devices in the shade (back porch) and a slab of wood+bricks to keep the panels angled at the sun directly (morning/evening). I cook up most of my solar success is due to the fact that I live in the California high desert – very few trees, very few things to cause murkiness, and strong sun most of the time. The 21 watt panels take 6-8 hours of direct sunlight 10am – 4pm+ to impediment my 26,800 mAh Anker battery brick half way. I know when my iPad says “cable not compatible” it just means it won’t charge while the iPad is turned on, I’ve noticed on my iPad Mini 2 I’ll get this if I have that AND my iPhone plugged into the panels, but if hide is off, they both charge... So I only use my battery bricks in connection with the panel most of the time. I have these fun “solar” challenges where all my devices will live off my battery bricks (powered by solar) and hamper “off the grid” for fun – for several weeks to a month at a time. Checking on the panels every few hours gets old too – doesn’t work well if I’m planning on accepted out and about on the weekends. Source: 9to5mac.com

RAVPower 15W Foldable Solar Charger assessment - The Gadgeteer

I hung read from my backpack the last time I went backpacking. My phone did not like getting intermittent power due to shadows and changing trail directions – a lot of beeping and buzzing. It would have been beat if I had charged a simple USB power pack during hiking, then used that to charge my phone at camp. I'm currently working on a review of the Unconscious Pro 3G car adapter. This adapter plugs into your vehicle’s OBD port and automatically keeps track of your engine’s health, MPG, location, trip details and more. I reviewed the creative version and of the Automatic Car Adapter and am interested to see how this new version compares. Source: the-gadgeteer.com
