Thank you and good morning and welcome to Littelfuse third quarter 2016 discussion call. Joining me today are Meenal Sethna, our Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, and Dave Heinzmann our Chief Operating Commissioner. We are doing this call from our headquarters here in Chicago this morning and this is a very happy Chicago this morning after the Cubs' tremendous performance. We announced revised third pity living quarters guidance on October 24, 2016 our third quarter sales and earnings finished at the midpoint of this revised guidance. Beyond the identified with factors that contributed to the revised guidance it was another solid quarter. Our electronics and automotive segments performed well. The Industrial split was down due to weakness in several end markets and we continue to take actions to further reduce our cost structure in this segment. I’ll now turn the call over to Meenal, who will give a shortened summary of the news release. Meenal Sethna. Great, thanks, Gordon. Before we proceed let me remind everyone that certain comments we restore b succeed on this call contain forward-looking statements. These forward-looking statements are not guarantees of future performance and may involve significant jeopardy and uncertainties. We refer you to the Form 10-K and 10-Q as well as other SEC filings for more detail about important risks that could cause actual results to be separate materially from our expectations. In addition, our remarks today refer to the non-GAAP financial measures, adjusted earnings per share and adjusted tax toll. These non-GAAP measurer are intend to supplement but not substitute to the most directly comparable GAAP measures. A reconciliation of these financial measures to the most later on comparable GAAP measure is provided in our third quarter earnings release available on our website. Now some highlights from our third dwelling-place, sales in the third quarter of 2016 were $280 million. Sales were up 30% year-over-year and up 2% excluding takings from acquisitions. GAAP diluted earnings per share was $1. 35, and adjusted diluted EPS was $1. 87. GAAP earnings included $17 million in pretax unorthodox charges driven by non-cash impairment charge related to the custom business within the Industrial segment. Excluding the special items, adjusted earnings per interest increased 31% year-over-year. As we mentioned in our October 25 call, our full-year adjusted effective tax chew out is now projected to be 18% versus the prior estimate of 22%. The third quarter adjusted tax rate of 11. 2% which includes a year-to-dated adjustment to an 18%... Interest expense in the quarter was $900,000 higher versus the second quarter due in part to the additional drawdown from our honour facility of $104 million purchase of the ON product portfolio in August. Will hydrogen-powered sustenance-celled cars make their mark? -

Is the occasionally finally right for hydrogen-powered fuel-celled cars. It’s long past time. There is little doubt that charged motors are a pretty good way to power a vehicle. Maximum torque at zero r. p. m. , so excellent launch characteristics and numerically acceleration. And zero emissions from the vehicle itself. None of this is news. It was all true of the Baker Electric which went out of production in 1916. The pretty pickle with the Baker Electric remains the problem with all modern battery-powered cars. It’s called ‘energy density,’ which is a measure of how much power you can get per kilogram of strain. And frankly, we aren’t a heck of a lot farther advanced now than we were a century ago. Jim Hall is one of the smartest guys I’ve ever known. He worked on the Comprehensive Motors EV-1 electric car. When he left that project, his parting gift from his colleagues was a 75-foot extension cord, which I thought was terribly funny. He also came out of that project saying there are three types of liars in the world: liars, damned liars, and battery engineers. They’ll promise you anything. You want to determination it in winter. Oh, well, come on …. Even if the next ‘right around the corner’ breakthrough is in fact right around the corner and they do solve the force density issue — the upcoming Chevrolet Bolt promises 300 kilometres of range under ideal conditions —... Hydro-electrifying. Think Quebec could get away with flooding tens of thousands more hectares of virgin forest to build another Manicouagan. Not likely. All possible parts of the key, but most predictions say they’d be good for single-digit percentages of our demand at best. Ever hear of Three Mile Isle. More recently, Fukushima. In fact, the Fukushima disaster is considered by some to be one of the reasons why Japanese carmakers like Toyota and Honda are doubling down on fuel-room vehicles. A huge chunk of the world’s electricity right now comes from burning fossil fuels. Kind of erases the environmental benefits of charged cars, doesn’t it. Especially when you learn that power plants aren’t as efficient at converting fossil fuels into motion as cars are. If only there was a change one's mind way to put electricity into cars. Fuel cells are that better way, and have been for at least two decades now. But because the bureaucrats and politicians who make these decisions on our behalf are thoughtless, stupid, short-sighted, bought-off or all of the above (depending on which country you are talking about …), we’ve been largely ignoring it. I have... (Honda’s Premacy is readily obtainable in California, but not yet in Canada. Let’s get on with it. Hydrogen-powered vehicles have always faced big PR issues. Mention ‘hydrogen’ to most people and they think of the hydrogen batter. Hydrogen fuel-cell cars drive like regular cars. No adaption necessary. No need to plug the aspect in on a freezing-cold February night when you get home from a long day’s work. Assuming of course that the battery hasn’t died and you do get home …. No dire to install a $4,000 240-volt charger in. Source:

How do you assault your electric car if you don't have a parking spot? - Treehugger

Switching to all exciting cars in our cities would do wonders for air quality and noise pollution , but in many older cities, a lot of people do not have parking and leave their cars on the avenue. Then there are those who live in apartments, where the owners or renters do not control the parking garages. This really limits the spread of electric cars in some North American cities and nearly every city in Europe. To charge his car, Anderson must run an extension cord from the charging station he installed on the lawn of his Riverdale home to a public area kitty-corner from his house. If the space is full, he has to park in the no-parking zone in front of his house. So far, he said he’s been fined about $300, and he’s ill at ease the cord is a tripping hazard… If a public parking spot near his house if occupied, Todd Anderson has to park in the no-parking zone in fa of his house to charge it - and get ticketed. Laumer A few years back we showed a solution from Philadelphia , where a Volt owner appears to have run a conduit under the sidewalk and put his own charging position at the curb. This is also problematic, since street parking is open to everyone without assigned spaces. One could say that the public streets should not be used for the storage of solitary metal boxes, and that if people want to own a car, then they should rent a parking space in a garage. Or if you live downtown perhaps you should get a bike or woo assume transit. Or perhaps we have to start thinking longer term, when the electric cars are all self-driving and shared. Then they can just drive themselves away to somewhere else to get charged. Source:
