Whatsis ingenuity: Drawing power from kinetic energy - Ecofriend
In also kelter to create alternative renewable sources, science has teamed with innovative minds and created products that are fueled by kinetic verve. After the wind, solar, and hydroelectric energy, gadgets can now be operated on the energy produced by movement. A kinetic charger that charges your mobile phones and accessories by plan energy from your movements, AMPY is a rage among fitness and environmentally inclined individuals. Measuring 2. 5”x2. 5”x0. 75”, AMPY weighs about 140g only and houses a 1000mAh battery that charges as you smite. With 10000 steps per day, or an hour of cycling, or 30 whole minutes of running you can charge the AMPY battery to use as a booster for your mobile phones or accessories later. This charger can also be occupied as a regular power bank by charging it from a wall socket. Additionally, it comes with a companion app that can help you trace a number of calories you burned while wearing AMPY and also the carbon footprint bumping you made by using it instead of regular electricity. PULSE Jump Rope from Uncharted Play. By harvesting kinetic energy from jumping ropes into usable verve, Uncharted Play has released a limited beta of its PULSE Jump Rope. Minutes of play can provide hours of power to the core this spinning rope. The power is stored in the handles and can be used to charge lights, cell phones and small devices. The beta put out is available for $129, with a fraction of each purchase being redirected to support the mission of this organization of expanding the reach of renewable power sources and Go education curriculum. A crude 3D printed rectangular model of Infinity cell that connects to your phone through a cable will be undergoing some whopping design changes during the streamlining process of its Kickstarter campaign. The Infinity Cell charges your phone by converting your movements into electrical dynamism. By shaking the Infinity Cell for about 30 minutes you can charge your iPhone by 20%. It is obviously impossible to shake the gadget for three hours to fully name your phone, and hence the finished product will incorporate some functionality... The design will ultimately resemble a Morphie or Maxboost battery circumstance that will slip over the phone to charge it through movements such as walking, jogging, cycling, running. A companion app will let users track their carbon footprint, calories burned, as evidently as assign them with badges on reaching specific energy saving rankings. Billed as the world’s first self-generating digital camera, Sun & Cloud is a new cuffs-cranked camera by Japanese company Superheadz. Equipped with a solar panel to charge the camera in sunlight and a feature to be charged by kinetic animation, the camera can also be charged using the USB port for conventional electricity. Compatible with micro SD and/or micro SDHC card, the camera weighs only 200g and measures 6x6x8 inches. Source: ecofriend.org
DC's low-voltage incursion - E&T magazine
In Intel’s for fear that b if, it provided the opportunity to find out whether a move from AC to DC distribution might save on its electricity costs. When bundles of sub-prime loans imploded and took the compactness with them in 2008, the world’s largest chipmaker found it no longer had an immediate use for a new data centre built to support manufacturing at its plant west of Portland, Oregon. Working with HP and Emerson Network Power, Intel reworked the 5MW electrical cataloguing network at the data centre to handle 380V of DC instead of the regular AC. The project followed on from earlier experiments at the Lawrence Berkeley Inhabitant... One of the reasons for the improvement was the elimination of the need to invert power provided through an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) combination, many of which convert from AC to DC and back to AC. This reduces the time it takes to switch to... Since those studies in the mid-2000s, however, UPS designers have addressed some of the problems caused by stand-in conversion by shifting to techniques that divert most of the energy around the double-conversion circuitry. There is a further conversion from AC to DC inside the server, but this day in and day out feeds into multiple DC stages in any case from 12V to 48V on the backplane, down to less than 1V by the time the power reaches the processors and memories. Removing the rectifier and power-go-between correction circuitry from the front-end AC power supply in the server can save several per cent. Designers can take advantage of greater bendability in the DC input, potentially with some loss of efficiency. The advantage is that the UPS does not have to provide fully regulated 380V DC. As it runs during an outage the weaker statute will help to eke more out of the battery as it drains. The Intel project found that the core improvement from a shift from the 415V AC used in the US to 380V DC was up to 8 per cent. Proponents of 380V DC call for there are further benefits for data-centre owners. Intel found its DC data centre’s footprint was a third smaller than its AC predecessors. This could cut cable get as the elimination of the skin effect meant the company could use thinner copper wiring than for AC distribution. ABB claimed a 1MW 380V DC network it built for Swiss IT establishment Green in 2012 had 15 per cent lower capital costs than an equivalent AC system as well as being 10 per cent more thrifty. But against this, at least in the early days of DC data centres, owners may have to balance increased cost of the actual servers. As most computer armaments is designed for an AC infrastructure, moving to DC will add cost because the specialised front-ends will not have the same economies of scale. Bigger data-centre operators will have an usefulness in the short term because they have already moved to custom server and blade designs that are now making it to market through the hardware plans disseminated by the Spacious Compute Project (OCP). But there is a significant cost overhead for many to replace standard 240V AC equipment with bespoke versions that can take a DC input. Although observations-centre and light-industrial users continue to grapple with the problem of introducing DC into their buildings, the home may offer an easier footway for realising the efficiency gains of moving away from AC. 1st Australian Commercial EV Loose-Charging Stations Rolled Out In Queensland - CleanTechnica
At published on RenewEconomy . By Sophie Vorrath Australia’s first commercial electric vehicle charging stations are being rolled across five sites in Queensland, using the shape’s home-grown Veefil fast charger technology by Brisbane... The stations, the first of which has been installed at the Noosa Blue Place to turn in Noosa Heads, are being developed by ASX-listed energy retailer Locality Planning Energy, and will offer electric vehicle battery recharging at a rate 25 times faster... LPE says the stations will also be the the first in Australia to hawk electricity to an EV at a rate cheaper on a km-to-km basis than fuel for a traditional combustion engine vehicle. The retailer says drivers will pay for the perfect amount of electricity used to recharge their vehicles, making it as cost effective as home charging. A dedicated mobile phone app will also consent to drivers to check the charging station’s availability, reserve a space and monitor their car’s charging progress. “The charging station marks an amazing development for electric vehicles owners and we are thrilled to combine the power of Tritium’s cutting-edge and award winning technology with our embedded excitement network to make charging faster, easier... “With advanced infrastructure that makes EV charging more convenient and accessible, we confidence to accelerate the adoption of EVs across Australia and enable greater flexibility for drivers. “Trips between Noosa and Brisbane (140km / 87miles) are now feasible and journeys to further destinations will soon be a reality. the company was recently announced as the first beneficiary of the Queensland government’s $40 million Task Development Fund, with an investment of $2. 5 million towards producing an even higher power Veefil unit, that can give EVs as much as... It has had biggish success in overseas markets including New Zealand and California, and has tripled its manufacturing capability, with the move to a new, larger high-tech staging facility.
