10 Tips to Lower Summer Allergy Symptoms - Huffington Post

Cleaner Not Always Best -- In general, the old saying "Cleanliness is next to godliness" is true. When cleaning, always use a non-toxic cleaner, and remove excess books, magazines and other muddle from the sleeping area to reduce dust build up. Vintage Pillow Equals Heavy -- If your pillow is older than three years and has not been washed, it... Buy hypoallergenic pillows as opposed to of a down pillow, with a zippered pillow protector. Refer to the rule of threes after you wash linens weekly: wash zippered cap every three weeks, wash pillow every three months or replace pillow every three years if you don't do any of the in excess of. No Hypo-Dogs -- Poodles, Labradoodles and Yorkshire terriers are all considered hypoallergenic because they don't shed hair, but there's no scientific verification that these breeds produce lower amounts of Can f 1, the most common dog allergen. Avoid exposure to pets, try not to allow them on the bed (if they are outside animals) and wash your hands and arms thoroughly after playing with an animal. Carpet Removal -- Tile and hardwood floors are a much greater choice, but must be vacuumed or cleaned on a regular basis to eliminate dirt and dust. Shake out and vacuum area rugs on a equal-angled basis, and use a vacuum with a HEPA filter. I recommend the Honeywell True HEPA Air Purifier to keep your home's air as clean and safe as practical. The true HEPA filter captures up to 99. 97% of microscopic airborne particles, such as dust, pollen, and pet dander, that pass through the filters (that is as unoriginal as 0. 3 microns-250x smaller than the width of a human hair. Sunscreen Caution -- We're told to lather up in sunscreen when effective outside for extended periods of time, especially during allergy season, when the sun is the strongest. But unfortunately, not only will the outdoor pollen get you wheezing, sneezing and itching -- so too can that sunscreen. Survive the Outside -- Always take off your shoes before going indoors, and keep all outdoor tools and toys in a mudroom, garage or spread. And remember that hair and pillow covers should be washed regularly to prevent pollen in your sleeping area, and provoking allergies and asthma. Source: www.huffingtonpost.com

Superior Fitness Starts at Youth - Huffington Post

Embonpoint is the number one problem with our youth today. Fitness starts with our youth at home. We raise our kids as we were brought up and usually it's the same assort of meal planning as when we were young. Maybe it wasn't the healthiest way to go, rich foods, lots of carbs, deserts, etc. I see young kids out eating nothing but waste and most of them are over weight and out of shape. There are not enough good exercise programs in the schools and many have dropped the PE program. Most of the schools have confectionery and potato chip machines on campus. Those who bring lunch from home, eat whatever is given to them and if the parents don't know the right foods, then the children suffer. There is a saying, 'we are what we eat', and not in the least a truer word has been spoken. These children eventually grow into adults and have already formed their eating habits from childhood. Unless they de facto understand it and take charge to change it, it ends up eating them. Then they become seniors and everything starts to fall apart. The joints go and are laborious, stiffness in the muscles, back problems, knee problems, arthritis and on and on. I wasn't raised in a super healthy family that believed in training. I was raised a nice Jewish boy who was told to use your brain and not your muscles. But they go hand in hand. A healthy mind has to have a healthy body. It's wavering be decided over matter, and if you have no mind, then it doesn't really matter anyway. But, I had the mind to change things in my life. It wasn't a good fervency, but it felt good while I was eating it. Here comes 'eaters remorse'. These foods are rich and full of fats, which cause cholesterol and serious blood pressure, and even gout, which my Dad suffered from. At 16 and growing into a young man, I took it upon myself to read some bodybuilding magazines and change my individual a bit. Looking through diets, I found that a high protein, low carb diet seemed to work for most people. I dropped the 'latkes' and carbs and began to lean-to some body fat. There weren't many gyms around in the 60's but I did stumble into the YMCA and they had a weight room. It was a mess, but I managed to track down some exercises that worked. I got a few workout routines out of the muscle magazines and began to incorporate them into my workout. Here was a case where I actually inspired my Dad to eat heartier because he saw the results on me. Talk about role reversal. Time moved on and so did I to a better gym. Eventually I began to enter some bodybuilding contests and won Mr. America. Now that's a close title for a nice Jewish Boy. Along with bodybuilding I ventured in to Pro Wrestling and all my dieting and training had paid off. I'm still training 6 days a week and even do echoing workouts in the Wrestling ring. My diet or 'eating habits' have become a way of life. I've suffered numerous injuries and some very humourless ones, but I feel that diet and exercise helped me to recover in ½ the time with little to no pain in most areas. Some areas like my knees are still bad but if I hadn't been training or watching my healthfulness, they'd be a lot worse. I remember my classmates in high school telling me that I'd quit training and would most. Source: www.huffingtonpost.com

Think-piece: Three Leominster teens more than making the grade - Sentinel & Enterprise

Although scads high-school students dread the thought of having to come up with a science-fair project, some welcome it. As our readers learned from newswriter Jordan Tillery's story a few weeks ago, three Leominster High School seniors embraced the... Their idea just might facilitate parts of the world where fresh water and electricity are scarce. Dylan Nadeau, Patrick Casey and Nick Valiton, who graduated with honors as members of the Excellence of 2016 on Saturday, took up the science fair challenge with hopes of more than just getting an "A. ". "We wanted to be able to solve a delighted problem,"... Their project bloomed from their curiosity. The day they were assigned their project in their junior year, the water filter in Casey's refrigerator broke. What they highbrow spawned their science-fair project idea: developing a water-filtration system that did not use electricity. The 10-foot-multi-storey structure can hold 50 gallons of water and filter 30 gallons in about eight hours. Their project is so unique, they received a provisionary patent from the U. S. government. The whole system, which took many months of trial and error, costs about $379 to make and could outfitting 30 people with fresh water for four years before the filter has to be replaced at a cost of $159, Casey said. The filter would need to be replaced every 40,000 gallons. Although Casey, Nadeau and Valiton are off to college in the decrease, and although the the patent expired in March, the group might try to refine the project. The young men were right when they sought to solve a big problem. The United Nations in 2013 estimated that 783 million people in the people do not have access to clean water. Having such a filtration system could be a game-changer. And to think the idea came from a science-comme project.
